- An outdoor industry initiative: Providing business relevant insight and common positions and solutions on sustainability topics for the (EU) outdoor industry
- Formed in October 08 at the initiative of Mark Held, European Outdoor Group
- Based on voluntary collaboration in order to handle and solve complex issues of sustainable business
- With the mission to promote and adopt the very best standards of sustainability and to constantly seek to improve business practices to the benefit of the environment, the work force and society as a whole
Several reasons:
- To get actively involved in sustainable matters involving the outdoor industry
- To receive the best available knowledge in terms of standards and regulations applicable to the outdoor industry
- To access a forum for dialogue on difficult and sensitive topics
- To find solutions to sustainable issues within my business which cannot easily be solved and are time consuming on my own and would benefit from the collaboration of others with similar issues (economies of scale)
- To improve the ecological / environmental impact of the outdoor industry as a whole, and of my company in particular
- To demonstrate to my customers our involvement in sustainable matters in the outdoor industry (consumer confidence and reputation risk management is better built through collaboration than a single company can on its own)
- The Sustainability Working Group recognises that social responsibility is a key element of sustainability and CSR. The Group promotes, therefore, responsible business supply chain management. However, given the scope and company-specific nature of social responsibility initiatives, the Group does not currently operate in this area.
Once you join the website you will be contacted by a member of the steering group to confirm the level of involvement, which could include participation in one of the working committees.

Membership is open to everyone involved in the outdoor industry. SWG aims to provide a platform for discussion and collaboration in all areas of sustainability.
